A person’s true or internal mind, soul, or nature ⇒ “a quest to find your inner self and your own uniqueness”, “the search for the inner self through symbolism, interpretation of dreams, symbolic association and repressed sexuality”
Your inner you is the real person within, the person most of us hide from the world.
But how many of us are aware we are even hiding it?
From the day we were conceived we were being nurtured by our parents – they have guided us and have been preparing us along with our teachers and other important people in our lives, ‘for the big bad world’. But what also has been happening is that they are passing on their thoughts and beliefs to us as well.
And they in turn were passed them by their parents and the their parents before them.
Similarly, out of the family upbringing and belief system there are families of bankers, doctors, accountants, or is this in the DNA? Children following the family tradition or going into the family business?
Is this you being allowed to show your own uniqueness?
If you are following tradition and you are allowed to make your own mark in your profession perhaps it is. If you get stuck are you being true to your inner-self?
I once met a lady working at a steam railway, she was telling me she volunteered there because of her husband; as a child his dream had been to be a train driver, but his father had wanted him to follow in his footsteps into banking, which he dutifully did. So, after the death of his father and after retirement he became a volunteer at the local steam railway, fulfilling his dream of being a train driver.
Your inner-self is your own uniqueness, it is your soul’s calling, it is the person you feel comfortable being (maybe when no-one else is around).
To know your inner self is to know your life purpose, to understand your values and your motivations. To acknowledge your challenges, talents and your goals. To become one with you, not the self we have been steered to become by others, but what you have discovered for yourself, about yourself.
But it doesn’t stop there, it is about living that way as well. Living your life purpose, value and motivation, but yours, not the way someone else has told you is the right way.
What makes you tick?
What presses your buttons or make your heart sing?
What would you really like to achieve in life?
What mark would you like to make on the world?
What makes you, the unique you? Who are you hiding?
If you haven’t done so yet, get in touch with your inner-self and find and live your life purpose, within that purpose activates your unique talents just waiting to be expressed and shared with the world. If you’ve ever witnessed someone living their life’s purpose, it’s inspiring to see, their happiness.
Having the same experience for yourself is pure bliss.
Once you have found the unique you, it can feel like the tying to put your feet in ill fitting shoes when you try to be the old you. It hurts and then becomes uncomfortable and then this causes other issues.
If you haven’t found your life purpose, you will, especially if you are one of those who have asked themselves, ’Is this the life I was really meant to live?’ Or ‘Whats it all about?’
I’m one of those people, spending years searching for the answer to what makes me happy. I think the most important thing I need to keep reminding myself is;
I am a daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and wife, but I am also me!
And finding and living for ‘me’ is important – ‘the unique me’ is my life purpose, I can use my unique talents to help my parents, children, grandson, brother and sister, nieces, friends and my husband as well as my clients. I can also use them myself to help me overcome my challenges and bring me in line with my life goals.
